Palm Beach synagogues plan multiple festive events for Hanukkah
By Diego Diaz Lasa (General Assignment Reporter)
The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah kicks off Wednesday at sundown and ends Thursday, Jan. 3.
Known as the Festival of Lights, the holiday commemorates the rise of the Jewish people against ancient Greek-Syrian oppressors. Jews observe Hanukkah by lighting a menorah lamp every evening of the holiday, in honor of the miracle of a one-day supply of oil for the rededicated Temple in Jerusalem lasting eight days.
Here’s a list of Hanukkah events taking place across Palm Beach:
New Synagogue of Palm Beach
Hanukkah Celebration: 7:45 to 9 p.m. Dec. 28. Entertainment includes a singalong with the Miami Stars Band, latkes making with the chef, latkes toppings bar, jelly doughnuts and a menorah lighting. The event has limited seating. To register, visit www.newsynagogue.org.
Jewish Family Jams Hanukkah Celebration: 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dec. 29. Join the temple for a morning featuring the Hanukkah story told through song, treats and a slew of family-friendly activities. To register, visit www.newsynagogue.org/youth.
